 Wishmed was honoured to officially inaugurate its new sales and service premises on Monday, 29th September 2025, in a ceremony graced by the presence of The Hills Shire Mayor, Dr. Michelle Byrne.

The morning commenced at 10am with the traditional ribbon-cutting, symbolizing the opening of our enhanced facility designed to better serve our community. Following the ceremony, Mayor Byrne took the opportunity to meet with our dedicated staff, gaining insight into our operations and the team that drives our commitment to excellence. The event continued with a wonderful morning tea, fostering a warm and collaborative atmosphere.

We were particularly privileged to engage in a meaningful discussion with the mayor about her work within the council. The conversation naturally turned to her pivotal "Fight for a Fairer Hills Future" campaign, a comprehensive initiative that resonates deeply with our own company values of community, sustainability, and progress.

Drawing from the campaign's framework, available for public review on The Hills Shire Council's website (https://hillshaveyoursay.thehills.nsw.gov.au/fairerhillsfuture), Mayor Byrne outlined the three core pillars of the initiative:

1.  A Thriving and Sustainable Hills Focusing on balancing growth with the preservation of our environment, enhancing parklands, and investing in sustainable infrastructure for future generations.

2.  A Livable and Connected Hills: Addressing the critical need for improved transport links, managing traffic congestion, and ensuring community facilities and services keep pace with our growing population.

3. A Community-Focused Hills: Championing transparency in council operations, protecting our local character, and ensuring that the community's voice is heard in the decisions that shape our region.

 

Hearing firsthand about the progression of this campaign was both enlightening and inspiring. The alignment between the council's vision for a "Fairer Hills Future" and our own mission to provide outstanding service and contribute positively to the local economy was a key point of discussion.

The opening of new businesses like this is a vital part of a thriving and connected Hills Shire," said Mayor Byrne. "It's encouraging to see local enterprises investing in our community and creating spaces that serve residents so directly."

 

This inauguration marks more than just the opening of a new location; it signifies our renewed commitment to being an active and supportive partner within The Hills Shire. We are excited to be a part of this dynamic community and look forward to contributing to its prosperous and fairer future.

For endodontic surgery to work, germs must be kept out of the root canal system. Root Canal Sealant is essential to this process. That way, there is less chance of getting the infection again. Good filler helps close up any gaps between the canal walls and the core filling material. When dentists choose sealants, they need to make sure they use the right kind so that treatments work better, patients are comfortable, and the office runs smoothly.   To pick the best sealant for your wants and preferences, you should know what each type is made of and what its pros and cons are.

Zinc Oxide Eugenol (ZOE)-Based Sealants

Many people have used ZOE-based sealant for a long time in endodontics. For these sealers, gutta-percha is often used. They are known to be antifungal and straightforward to make. There is a good chance of getting sick, but these are great because microbes can't get on them.  Though ZOE seals don't work too well sometimes. Calcium Hydroxide-Based Sealants

Calcium hydroxide Root Canal Sealant is more popular now because they are suitable for your health.   They work like antibiotics and help the periapical cells heal. They stand out because they have a high pH level.   They're ideal for regenerative endodontics or situations where the teeth aren't fully formed yet because they give off calcium and hydroxyl ions, which help hard tissue form.

For some reason, they don't stick together very well and take a long time to break down, which can make the seal less intense over time.   Calcium hydroxide sealants are often used with other materials or ways to compensate for their lower mechanical strength. 

Epoxy Resin Sealants

Many dental offices now like AH Plus seals because they are made of epoxy resin. Other materials for this job don't stick to dentin as well as these do. They also shrink less and close better.   They don't break down quickly, so bacteria can't get into them. It is better to get X-rays after treatment because these seals are radiopaque.

One of the best things about epoxy resin Root Canal Sealant is that they work well with thermoplastic obturation methods.   Because they are thick and don't let air in, they can fit into root canal lines with small holes or gaps.   For tough cases, the longer the time it takes to set, the more time you have to work. 

Bio ceramic Sealants 

Bioceramic-based Root Canal Sealant is the newest thing in endodontic materials. Hyaluronite can be made while these sealants are setting. This makes the bond between the sealer and dentin stronger.   Because they are safe, they work well for people who are sensitive or allergic to certain chemicals.

Bioceramic sealers are also praised for their ability to close well, stay the same size, and kill bacteria because their pH is alkaline.   Since they're already made and ready to use, they are simple to work with.   You can chemically bond with dentin to create a stronger seal. There are many good things about this.  They were just released not long ago, so long-term clinical studies are still being planned. 

Silicone - Based Sealants 

The fact that silicone-based Root Canal Sealant is flexible, easy to reapply, and don't hurt the gums or other tissues around the tooth is a good thing. Guayabera bits and other things are often mixed into these sealants to help them stick to the core material better.   They're liked by most because they stay the same size once they're set.

How to Pick the Best Sealant

You should think about how complex the case is, how sensitive the patient is, if the Root Canal Sealant can be used again, how much it costs, and how well the biological and mechanical performance should match when choosing a root canal sealant.    Epoxy resin sealers can be the ideal option if you want a strong seal that will last a long time. Bioceramic or calcium hydroxide might be preferable choices if you want to build something that is safe for the body and helps the flesh repair.

You should also think about how effectively the sealant interacts with the manner you like to block things, such as horizontal compaction, vertical condensation, or carrier-based systems.    Also, check to see if the sealer works with your intended use. This will make things move smoothly and provide you with nice outcomes.

The face of the moon was in shadow

Digital dentistry is now a well-established reality that is progressively gaining more and more ground. (1). New technologies have opened the way to possibilities for dentists and patients that were unimaginable until recently. This was also possible thanks to the introduction of software for treatment simulations into the dental market, which the evolution of technologies available today have made increasingly realistic and engaging for the patient.(2)

Digital technologies for dental aesthetics

Tools such as Digital Smile Design (DSD) (3) or the Digital Smile System (4) help the clinician design an aesthetic pre-visualisation of the patient’s smile, addressing their concerns and motivating them towards the recommended treatment.(5) The patient can thus be involved in planning their future smile in harmony with their own style, can receive more detailed information on the treatment plan and at the same time discuss it with the dentist while looking at their own images and photographs.(6)

In 2017, Christian Coachman described the evolution of smile planning systems (7) starting from analogue drawings made on patient photographs without any connection to study models of the dental arches. Subsequently, the field moved on to two-dimensional digital plans, first with a visual connection to the analogue model using software such as Power Point or Keynote, then later to integration with the 3D model of the patient.

The three-dimensional digital workflow in dentistry​

The advancement of digital technologies has then led to an increasingly three-dimensional workflow, which integrates facial and dental aesthetic parameters, allowing for ever greater integration between the virtual model of the patient and the patient’s facial photos or scans. In the latest generation (the sixth), the 4D concept introduces motion, adding dynamism to smile design for even more realistic and personalised pre-visualisation.(8)

The possibility of creating a mock-up as a step following the digital pre-visualisation of the patient’s final smile turns out to be an important aid for both the clinician and the patient, before proceeding with the rehabilitation. The mock-up can in fact be used for both aesthetic reasons and functional reasons; for example, to test a new VDO or a new occlusal pattern, evaluating its adaptation in the patient’s mouth once functionalised.(9)

The benefits of digital workflow in dentistry

The advantages that can be obtained from this workflow are truly remarkable and decisive in terms of treatment predictability.

  • The digital analysis of facial, gingival and dental aesthetic parameters in the patient’s smile and face, previously impossible or very complex without such software, can now be performed in an objective and standardised way.(2)

  • Personalisation of the smile design using photographs increases the patient’s participation in the treatment plan, making them, as already mentioned, more aware and therefore reinforcing acceptance of the treatment and satisfaction.(10)
  • Digital preview of the smile improves not only communication between doctor and patient, but also between members of the dental team, as well as between doctor and dental technician.(3,4)
  • Any person in the team capable of viewing and possibly digitally modifying the aesthetic smile project can access the file in the software and make the appropriate changes without having to be physically present and, at the same time, sharing what has been done with the other collaborators.
  • The fact that patients can then view their rehabilitations before starting treatment can also have important medico-legal functions.(11)

Limitations and challenges of digital dentistry

However, despite these important advantages, there remain some limitations related to the software, tools used and workflows applied.

First, since diagnosis and treatment planning depend on photographic documentation, inadequate documentation can distort the reference image and lead to incorrect diagnosis and planning. (12)

For this reason, for photographic documentation several authors recommend using a reflex camera with an 85 to 105 mm lens in order to ensure a correct photo enlargement factor.(13,14)

Also the inclination of the patient’s head and the Frankfurt plane relative to the horizontal plane may not be correct during photography, potentially resulting in a subsequent alignment error between the 3D scans and the photo.(15)

The photograph in what is called the “natural head position” could still be affected by the possible retroclination or proclination of the maxillary arch. And it is not easy to obtain a photo in which the axis of the photographic lens is parallel to the patient’s Frankfurt plane, especially when treating elderly patients with spinal problems.

For a complete 3D digital workflow, up-to-date CAD/CAM software, intraoral scanners, 3D printers and/or milling machines are required, which makes the process expensive and not always sustainable.(16) It is also necessary to be able to manage and know how to use the software, in order to correctly align all the patient data, further increasing times and costs.(17)


In conclusion, digital technology has revolutionized dental aesthetics by offering realistic pre-visualisations and improving doctor-patient communication. However, proper 3D pre-visualisation requires advanced tools and accurate documentation, which can be a limitation.
